Video Art Drive-In + ID Music Yoga Simulcast
Void Contemplation Tactics Drive-In
Enjoy Cosmic Chambo's immersive mindfulness installation from a safe distance
The 20200330 installment of Void Contemplation Tactics will be on view from August 14-20, 2020 as part of the 10 East Video Art Drive-In in Indianapolis.
Void Contemplation Tactics is a series of guided meditation videos combining video art, heavy mellow music, and readings from Zen teachers. The kaleidoscopic images are made from multiple overlapping slow motion videos of the Prairie Creek Reservoir in East Central Indiana. The 2020330 episode also features language from Zen Master Seung Sahn, and music from PJS.
I moved forward with this project after placing my IRL mindfulness installations at Healer, Magick City, and elsewhere on indefinite hold due to the ongoing pandemic. Upcoming episodes will include contributions from a variety of video artists and musicians.
My video will be screening nightly with “Still Not Still, Still” (2018) from artist Zack Bent.
The films will play in a loop each evening from 8:42pm-11pm. The 10 East Video Art Drive-In is located at 3202 E. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN. Visit 10EastArts.org for more info.
Peace and blessings upon series curator Chris Vorhees for including me. Special thanks to Muncie Arts & Culture Council and Invoke Studio for their support of the Void Contemplation Tactics series.
Inter-Dimensional Music + Basking in Gravity 20200717
• A self-guided yoga + meditation practice
• Sequence notes at danielchamberlin.com
• Playlist details at mixcloud.com/CosmicChambo
• Originally simulcast with the July 19 Far West Texas transmission of ID Music
This is a self-guided practice experiment that was originally broadcast on YouTube Live from Cosmic Chambo Studios in downtown Muncie, Indiana in front of a studio audience consisting entirely of sleeping cats.
Ours is a yin yoga practice, so we’re moving slooowly, and holding poses for extended periods of time. The (very) basic idea is to find your variation on the pose and then gradually release tension and control, letting gravity do the work of stretching your body. I've posted
Poses are identified throughout the video, but that’s the extent of the instruction. I've posted notes on the asanas at danielchamberlin.com, including links to deeper explanations from Bernie Clark and Diana Batts’ yinyoga.com. This is a participatory performance more than a yoga class, and I encourage you to make the practice your own. The sequence may be familiar if you’ve participated in my IRL Basking in Gravity mindfulness installations at Healer, StorageSpace, Indianapolis Zen Center, or Brooklyn’s Magick City.
ID Music 20200717 is thick with heavy mellows, and features new sounds from some of the artists who participated in my ongoing Void Contemplation Tactics meditation video series: PJS, Mary Lattimore & Paul Sukeena, Growing, Tengger, Wife Signs, Lunaria, and Inner Travels. The visuals are from the same video series, mostly heavily manipulated digital video of the White River and Prairie Creek Reservoir in East Central Indiana.
