Inter-Dimensional Music is heard weekly on the airwaves of Marfa Public Radio, LOOKOUT FM Los Angeles, and WQRT Indianapolis.

For this week's practice session we begin a series considering one of the most well-known koans in Zen, translated variously as "Eno's Good and Evil", "The Sixth Patriarch's Robe and Bowl", or just "Original Face." One envious monk pursues another into the mountains. Their beef is quashed with the question "What is your original face before your parents were born?" There are many versions in circulation: We’re looking at the one from the Entangling Vines collection.

Koans are not resolved with reason and logic, and our heavy mellow flow offers a complementary opportunity to sit with uncertainty. We begin with Krallice's Colin Marston vs. Kid Millions in a riddim-forward ambient soundclash. The rest of the hour alternates between "chattering industrial clamor and automatous world meditation," to borrow a phrase from featured artist FRKSE. Listen for a favorite "psychedelic ritual trance maestro," sludge-jazz fusion "designed to empower Black & Indigenous people the world over and dismantle white supremacy," and Mako Sica, Hamid Drake, Tatsu Aoki, and Thymme Jones' tribute to George Floyd. Our program begins and ends with Norman W Long "Sounding and Remixing myth, ritual, space/time and personal narrative" as inspired by the work of Cuban printmaker Belkis Ayon. Language throughout taken from various translations of the aforementioned koan.
