Inter-Dimensional Music 20210910
North America's Gnarliest Mix for tasting water and knowing for yourself whether it's cold or warm
stream | download | instrumental
Inter-Dimensional Music is heard weekly on the airwaves of Marfa Public Radio, LOOKOUT FM Los Angeles, and WQRT Indianapolis.
For this third installment in ID Music's "Original Face" series, we'll begin and end with a full reading of "The Sixth Patriarch's Robe and Bowl" with accompaniment from timber rattle and lightning white buffalo's "grazing the storm-floor." No previous experience required, but you can experience the first two installments in this series via ID Musics 20210827 and 20210903.
In the space between, we'll hear music both related and unrelated to this metaphorical illustration of the dharma. Listen for intermingled sitar, bass, and saxophone from Luke Stewart & Jarvis Earnshaw Quartet; the continuous sound of worship emanating from Ornette Coleman's Space Church; and Pelt's latest headneck jugalbandi. While researching music for the show we were zero percent surprised to see that fellow practitioners Yob have a song called "Original Face," although their version includes leeches and seraphim. Wailing Souls close things out with thoughts on facing devils both metaphorical and otherwise.
Visual accompaniment arrives once again in the form of chopped, slopped, inverted, and over-saturated camera phone footage of King Hu’s Zen-informed martial arts masterpiece Raining in the Mountain (1979).
